Aquascutum

Fall 2011, LFW.

There was a lot of pressure on Joanna Sykes to get her first collection for Aquascutum right and Samantha Cameron sitting front row wouldn’t have exactly eased that pressure.

Luckily she did get it right and the collection was a huge success, sticking to Aquascutum traditional styles with a modern infusion Sykes clearly knew what was needed to give the label a new lease of life. The perfect tailoring that is key to the label was still present in the collection, with bright oranges and dusky blues mixed in for a modern take on the historic label. Layering was also an important factor in the collection, clearly perfect for English ever changing weather.

Sykes also proved she knew how to do outerwear in the Aquascutum way and it proved to be the most successful element of the collection. The outerwear ranged from tailored coats and trenches to parkas and padded gilets that were layered over the tailored coats.
